Today, we feature a mix from one of our very own Chulitxs - the tunes comes directly from their vinyl collection. This mix comes from Chulita Tear Drop, the CVC Founder, and other Chulxs who participated in the Hostile Terrain 94 (HT94).
Chulita Vinyl Club DJs from TX & CA presented an on-line, virtual performance with Texas State Galleries & the Center for Texas Music History. The event was broadcast on @txstgalleries IGTV. Our virtual offering is a smaller program, as part of a larger traveling art exhibition titled 𝘏𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝟿𝟺 or 𝘏𝘛𝟿𝟺. This participatory art project is sponsored and organized by the @undocumentedmigrationproject —a non-profit research-art-education-media collective, directed by anthropologist @jason.de.leon. The exhibition is composed of ~3,200 handwritten toe tags that represent migrants who have died trying to cross the Sonoran Desert of Arizona between the mid-1990s and 2019. These tags are geolocated on a wall map of the desert showing the exact locations where remains were found.
Jason Mellard, director of the @centerfortxmusichistory at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX was asked to curate a music series in part to display how music and art can serve as sites of solidarity, remembrance, resilience, and resistance, and when CVC was asked to participate we jumped at the chance. We specifically chose this noisy election week to connect with you all, friends, and hope our video brings some healing and hope for these stressful times.
