Chulita Yellow Black Bird - Just an Orange County Mija Vol 1: Mis Quince

For as long as I can remember,
my siblings and have helped at my parents jobs...
housekeeping and construction.

One summer when I was in college,
My Mom went on vacation to Mexico.
I cleaned a two story house in Newport Beach by myself.

I took the $250 and bought two turntables and a mixer.

The year was 2004.
That was 15 years ago.
Mis Quince.

I wasn’t a typical Quinceañera. I was a rock n roller/Rockabilly in HS. I only had a Quince because I didn’t want to regret not having had one. Looking back, it was a rite of passage as a Santanerx i’m happy I went through. My Quince dress was designed and made at a shop on La Cuatro in. My pictures were taken in front of Bowers Museum. I had my Quince in the backyard of my parents house in Santa Ana.

My Dad and I danced to “Angel Baby” by Rosie and The Originals during my Vals.

I was 13 when my Sister Jacky had her Quince. She would use her Quince money to buy a pizza and we would listen to Art Laboe together in our porch during the summer.

This mix is dedicated to all the Orange County Mijxs.
